This week we want to introduce you to The Children's Society. They are involved with fighting for children's rights and also advocacy for our young people. They also work with those who have been trafficked, have been exploited sexually or coerced into criminal activity and so much more. To check out their website is to educate yourself into what many of our young people are facing daily.
Today I want to look at children who are living in poverty in the UK in 2021. I add the year purposefully, so that we can see where we should be and where we actually are.
In 2021 there are around 5 million children - and the figure is rising - living in poverty. Let that sink in a minute. Given in the UK there are now around 68,284,715 people, that is a huge chunk of our population. Five million isn't the total number of people living in poverty, it is the number of children living in poverty. Of just over 60 million people, 5 million of our are children are living in poverty.
The children's Society is involved with securing finding so that our young people have food on the table, help pay for heating the home, and paying bills. lightening the load for families who are desperately struggling.
In the UK there are 1300 Trussell Trust food banks and around 900 independent food banks. The number of people using the food banks in 2008/2009 was 25,899. In the year 2020/21 is 2,537,198. The Trussell Trust reports that; 'When looking at the number of parcels distributed, children are over represented among those receiving a food parcel. This has consistently been the case in previous years, and between April 2020 and March 2021, 39% of parcels went to children. This is despite those aged 0-16 making up just 20% of the UK population.' That is horrifically shocking.

The link below takes you to the Children's Society website where they show who they are helping in fighting poverty in the UK.
You can donate direct to them on that page link as well as, if you buy from their exclusive clothing range on your website we donate for you 20% of the retail value of your order. To break that down for you...
Buy 1 adult hoodie and we give £6.98 to The Children's Society. £5 could pay for a hot meal, shower and living essentials for a young runaway. £10 could pay for a front line worker's phone so children in danger can contact them. Your donations really do make a difference.
We also urge you to campaign and lobby your MP's for change. Find out how to do this on the Children's Society website.
Our children are our future and we must invest in what they need today so we all have a better future.
